Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 is a time to celebrate Dr. King's life and legacy as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement and his message of support for all people who are oppressed and face injustice.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿-𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴?

𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻: Dr. King was born Michael King Jr., but his father changed their names to Martin after being inspired by the Protestant reformer Martin Luther.

𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗺: At the age of six, a white friend’s parents told him they couldn’t play together anymore because of his race. This formative moment awakened his understanding of injustice and planted the seeds for his lifelong mission.

𝗔 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗴𝘆: He skipped two grades, entered Morehouse College at just 15, and graduated with a degree in sociology at 19.
